About Ged Byrne
Gerrard Byrne is a part-qualified Patent Attorney with experience helping innovators protect mechanical and electromechanical inventions. Combining a strong engineering background with practical intellectual property expertise, he works with clients to identify what makes their inventions unique and secure patent protection that supports their commercial objectives.
Before moving into private practice, Gerrard worked as a Patent Examiner at the UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO). This experience gave him valuable insight into how patent applications are assessed, allowing him to develop a thorough understanding of patentability requirements and examination practices. He joined Panoramix IP in 2026 and is currently completing his final examinations to qualify as both a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and a European Patent Attorney.
Experience
Gerrard holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Liverpool and has built his career across both public and private sector intellectual property roles.
Following his time at the UKIPO, he gained experience within specialist intellectual property firms and in-house commercial teams, developing expertise in patent drafting, prosecution, litigation support, prior art searching and patent analytics. His engineering knowledge enables him to understand complex technologies quickly, identify the features that distinguish an invention from the prior art and develop practical strategies for securing meaningful patent protection.
Clients and sectors
Gerrard works with a diverse range of clients, from individual inventors and early-stage businesses to established manufacturers and multinational organisations.
His experience covers mechanical and electromechanical technologies across a broad range of industries, including consumer products, industrial equipment and specialist engineering systems. Ged provides clear, commercially focused advice that helps clients maximise the value of their innovation when registering their patent or managing a portfolio.
