Brands we have Helped
Never Lose a Design to a Missed Deadline
A UK registered design is initially protected for five years and can be renewed in five-year increments up to a maximum of 25 years. Each renewal has its own deadline, and missing it – together with the short grace period that follows – means the design can lapse and the protection is lost.
We remove that risk. By tracking every renewal date across your portfolio and confirming every payment, we make sure the designs that distinguish your products stay protected for as long as you want them to. You get certainty, clear records and one less deadline to worry about.
A Portfolio That Matches Your Products
Product ranges change. Designs are superseded, lines are discontinued, and some registrations stop reflecting what you actually sell. Renewing every design regardless of whether it still protects a live product is money spent for no return.
We help you review your design portfolio at each renewal cycle and make deliberate decisions – maintaining the designs that protect current and future products, and letting go of those that no longer do. The result is a portfolio that mirrors your range and a renewal budget focused where it delivers value.

FAQs
How long does a UK registered design last?
A UK registered design is protected for an initial period of five years from the filing date and can be renewed in further five-year periods up to a maximum of 25 years. After that it cannot be renewed further. We track each five-yearly deadline so your protection runs for as long as it can and as long as you want it to.
When do I need to renew a registered design?
Each five-year period must be renewed before it expires. As with trade marks, there is generally a six-month grace period after the due date during which you can still renew, usually with a late fee. We remind you well in advance so renewals are made on time and late fees are avoided.
What happens if I miss a design renewal?
If the renewal and any late fee are not paid within the grace period, the registered design lapses and protection ends. In limited circumstances a lapsed design may be restored if the failure to renew was unintentional and an application is made in time, but this is discretionary. Reliable deadline management is the safest approach.
Is unregistered design right renewable?
No. Unregistered design rights arise automatically and last for a fixed period without any renewal — UK unregistered design right and the supplementary unregistered design have their own set durations. Only registered designs are renewed. We can advise on the mix of registered and unregistered protection you hold and how best to maintain it.
Can you manage design renewals in other countries?
Yes. Through our associate network and the Hague System for international design registrations, we manage renewals across multiple jurisdictions, consolidating the deadlines, reminders and payments so you deal with a single point of contact rather than many local agents.
Should I renew every registered design I own?
Not necessarily. If a design no longer protects a product you sell or plan to sell, renewing it may not be worthwhile. We help you review your portfolio at each cycle and focus your renewal budget on the designs that genuinely protect your commercial range.
How much does a design renewal cost?
The official renewal fee is set by each registry and increases with each successive five-year period, and there is a service fee for managing the renewal. We provide clear cost information ahead of each renewal cycle so you can budget across your portfolio. Contact us for tailored guidance.
