How do I license my US patent?

You grant another party the right to use your patented invention in the US on agreed terms – exclusive or not, for a territory, field and period, usually for royalties – while keeping ownership. A well-drafted US licence deals with scope, payments, enforcement and termination. We structure and negotiate these so the commercial value reaches you and disputes are avoided.

What should I watch out for in a US patent joint venture?

The key issues are ownership of background versus newly created (foreground) IP, who can use what after the venture ends, and who controls enforcement and shares any recoveries. These need to be agreed in writing at the outset – US co-ownership rules can be surprising, and each co-owner may be able to license independently. We put clear terms in place before problems arise.

Yes, cross-border licensing is common and can be very lucrative, but it needs terms that work under US law and handle tax, payments and enforcement across borders.
